Street CCRED in the Community:
Street CCRED partners with community agencies, health care programs and organizations that work with and support vulnerable populations in Calgary.  Through these partnerships and collaborations, we have been able to help initiate, facilitate and expedite the development of community events to support vulnerable populations in Calgary.  Here are some events that we have been a part that are making a difference today for Calgary's most vulnerable.
INNER CITY HEALTH ENGAGEMENT TOWN HALL
In 20115, STREET CCRED and the University of Calgary’s SPaCE (Strategic Partnerships and Community Engagement) hosted over 130 attendees representing community agencies, academics, clinicians, newcomers, refuges, low-income earners and others in a world café style forum.  This Inner-City Health Town Hall profiled five inner city health programs where participants brainstormed topics ranging from Connect 2 Care initiatives, EMS-Emergency departments linkages, The Alpha House Model, Drop-In Centre stages of care and CUPS Outreach Programs.  This event strengthened linkages between U of C, Community Agencies, and the health system, paving the way for innovative new programs serving populations at high risk of poor health outcomes.
IMAGINEERING A COMPASSIONATE CALGARY – A STREET CCRED AND SOCIAL MEDICINE CONFERENCE
Street CCRED formed the planning committee and chaired this 2015 national event. University of Calgary Dean of Medicine Dr. John Meddings welcomed 160 inner-city health practitioners, faculty and students to this hands-on conference chaired by Street CCRED founder Dr. Bonnie Larson. The event helped build community capacity and foster national relationships with colleagues running similar programs like the Palliative Education and Care for the Homeless (PEACH) in Toronto and Managed Alcohol Program (MAP) in Ottawa. Speakers from across the country included Drs Naheed Dosani, Jeff Turnbull, and Ryan Meili and Mayor Nenshi delivered a keynote at the evening “changemakers” event. The event also featured a student-run community resources pavilion with representatives from over 40 community agencies and programs. This conference helped launch Calgary’s Allied Mobile Palliative Program (CAMPP) and the Managed Alcohol Program.
CAMPP TOWN HALL
On November 30th, 2017 Street CCRED hosted a meeting at the Alex Community Health Centre where 65+ health and social service care workers from numerous Calgary agencies gathered to imagine next steps for expanding CAMPP as a community partnership. Participants included the Calgary Homeless Foundation, CUPS, Alpha House, The Drop-In Centre, AAWEAR, Inn from the Cold, Mustard Seed, Southwood Hospice, AHS (including palliative home care), and many more. Conversation Café tables were led by volunteers from Propellus, with University of Calgary medical student note-takers. The Town Hall addressed: Access to palliative care, dying “at home”, Harm reduction in palliative care, providing accompaniment and companionship, grief and bereavement, including what is now known as the Homeless Memorial Project.

PERINATAL SUBSTANCE USE SYMPOSIUM
Street CCRED was proud to help organize, facilitate and host this important event with keynote speaker Dr Ron Abrahams, Clinical Professor in the Department of Family Practice at UBC and Medical Director of Perinatal Addictions at BC Women’s Hospital. Dr. Bonnie Larson was one of a panel of experts who addressed the audience of health and social service practitioners. This symposium was part of a study led by Dr. Mary Malbranche addressing the Maternal and Newborn Health of Vulnerable Women Accessing Prenatal Care at a Multidisciplinary Inner-City Clinic in Calgary.
